Times of Holy Mass & Services

FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

28th January 2007 (Year C)

Sunday Mass: Holy Mass every Sunday at 12 noon at The Ecumenical Chaplaincy Centre, Bath University for students of University of Bath & BSU and friends.

The Presentation of our Lord in The Temple (Friday 2nd Feb) traditionally known as Candlemas, when we have the Procession and Blessing of Candles before Holy Mass. Each home should always have a blessed candle and holy water, for the visit of the Priest or Minister to the Sick and for general devotional use. This feast is the 40th Day of Christmas and the end of our Christian festival of Light.

“There were four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realised that Everybody couldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody, when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.”

That should be clear then!

 & HELP IF YOU CAN

The Vigil of Peace

will be held on the Parade at Bath Campus on Tuesday 30th January from 12 noon until 3.00 pm

outside the Library on the Parade at University of Bath Claverton Down Campus.

'Vigil for Peace' follows on from the celebration of Peace Sunday celebrated internationally by Catholics on Sunday 14 January when the Pope's World Peace Message for 2007 was entitled "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good". The Catholic Chaplain to the University of Bath & Bath Spa University, Father Bill OSM invites people of other faiths and none to come together to witness to peace.

Readings from poetry and prose, singing of various kinds of peace music throughout the vigils, moments of silence, creation of a peace wall and making of paper sakado cranes of peace, candles and presentation of symbols of peace are all part of the plan to sustain prayer and reflection on peace.  Perhaps you have ideas that will make a difference.

Father Bill says:  "There is really small need to remind ourselves of the terrible plight so many  people around the world suffer because of the lack of peace and justice.  Even the natural catastrophes bring home to us the dreadful divisions between human beings of which we might have ceased to be aware in so many places or simply preferred not to see.  For peace to flourish we must make a simple start in our own hearts and learn to trust those who share our earth with us.   We must long for peace!

At the end of the vigil we will share a simple 'bring and share' fellowship meal.  At the vigils we hope to advance and pray for our core values of non-violence, reconciliation and peace. All are welcome to join us for whatever moments they find it possible to be present during the Vigils.  Just come along as and when you can! "

A letter came that might interest some of you.

Dear Fr.Bill,

You may recall that I wrote to you towards the end of last year to advise you of opportunities for Catholic students to undertake a worthwhile and rewarding post-graduation gap year at SPEC, part of the Catholic Diocese of Westminster’s ministry to children and young people. I mentioned in my letter that we would be launching a new website and I am pleased to say that the new site is now live at www.spec.org.uk. The site packed with information about SPEC and our mission.  It also has a section dedicated to potential volunteers and I would strongly recommend it as a source of information for any students who might be considering a post-graduation gap year working with children or young people in a Catholic environment. I would be very grateful if you could encourage any potentially interested students to visit our site.

CATHSOC COMMITTEE?

We have a great Committee currently but the time is edging up when we start interesting those who will take over from the current generous officers and keep up the lively work. Could you think about it, please and ponder whether you might offer to stand as an officer or look at those around who might be good at it and tell them you think they might be good at being one of the new Committee.

The Committee next meets on Monday 29th Jan at 6.15pm in the Catholic Chaplaincy Centre in Bath.
