opportunities for Holy Mass with the Blessing & Receiving Blessed Ashes
are: Although not a Holyday of Obligation, many students and staff find it a powerful beginning to Lent to be at Holy Mass and receive the blessed ashes. The ashes come from the burning of last year's blessed palms from Palm Sunday and remind us how quickly glory and praise due to God can be forgotten. Ash Wednesday is one of the two remaining Days of Fast (i.e. adults between 18-60 to considerably reduce the amount of food we eat & children appropriately) and Abstinence (from meat) and to give alms! Fridays of Lent to do particular forms of penance by personal choice (with the recommendation that we fast) and giving Lenten Alms. |
