Third Meriol Trevor Memorial Lecture: "Ethics and Globalization: The Interreligious Challenge." The 3rd Meriol Trevor Lecture sponsored by Catholic Chaplaincy to Higher Education in Bath will take place on the eve of United Nations Day in One World Week, at 7.30pm in the Academy Hall at Prior Park College when The Rev.Professor John Pawlikowski, OSM, President of the International Council of Christians and Jews (ICCJ) and Professor of Ethics at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, who is a prolific author on Social Ethics and on Jewish Christian dialogue will speak on "Ethics and Globalization:The Interreligious Challenge." The Meriol Trevor Lecture each year echoes the concerns of this notable Bathonian member of the Catholic Community whose scholarship on John Henry Newman made her well known but did not limit her interests. Her work on Pope John XXIII reflected on the era of that Pope and indicates the seminal influence he exerted on Jewish Christian relations. With that in mind, this year's lecture offers a special focus on this vital and ongoing concern, alluding to the writings and thought of John XXIII and particularly to the Vatican II documents on interreligious understanding and on inter-Christian relations plus John XXIII's encyclical PACEM IN TERRIS. All interested members of the University & wider community, & friends are welcome at the invitation of the Catholic Chaplain to Higher Education in Bath. However interest in the event and limited capacity necessitate admission by ticket only. Book a seat for the occasion and further information via Father Bill M.McLoughlin, OSM either by email on chaplain@bathcatholics.org.uk or see other contact details... |

Ash Wednesday: Beginning of the Holy Season of Lent The
start of the Holy Season of Lent in preparation for Easter... Ash Wednesday
opportunities for Holy Mass with the Blessing & Receiving Blessed Ashes
are: Although not a Holyday of Obligation, many students and staff find it a powerful beginning to Lent to be at Holy Mass and receive the blessed ashes. The ashes come from the burning of last year's blessed palms from Palm Sunday and remind us how quickly glory and praise due to God can be forgotten. Lent is a time to review our lives and perhaps make some fresh starts! Ash Wednesday is one of the two remaining Days of Fast (i.e. adults between 18-60 to considerably reduce the amount of food we eat & children appropriately) and Abstinence (from meat) and to give alms! Fridays of Lent to do particular forms of penance by personal choice (with the recommendation that we fast) and giving Lenten Alms. |
