The Meriol Trevor Memorial Lecture
to be given by Rev.Dr.Ian Ker on the subject of "Is Newman's idea of a University still relevant today?".

     
    Education is often seen to be at a crossroads, and that is no less true at this time. All the institutions are constantly experiencing new demands and change, and as a new Vice-Chancellor takes office at Bath University and new staff and students join established communities of scholars in the institutions of the city of Bath, we wisely try to draw on a heritage of learning as well as opening to the new. No doubt, to some, Newman may seem much removed from our age but his inspirations and ideas could still challenge the supposed modernity of the times.
